High School Graduation Requirements

University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) Subject Requirements

A. ENGLISH Four years of college-preparatory English        
B. MATHEMATICS

Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, or higher level mathematics
Three years required
Four years recommended
       
C. HISTORY/SOCIAL SCIENCE

World History, U.S. History, Government
Two years        
D. LABORATORY SCIENCE

Biology or Physiology & Chemistry or Physics
Two years with laboratory (one life & one physical)        
E. WORLD LANGUAGE

Spanish, Mandarin, French
Two years required
Three years recommended
(at least two years of the same language)
       
F. VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS

Ceramics, Drawing & Painting, Choir, Drama, Instruments, Guitar, Band
One year        
G. COLLEGE-PREPARATORY ELECTIVES One year of academic courses in any of the A-F areas or a college-preparatory elective
