Due: Monday, 10/19/2020 II Allegory of a Teenager (based off of Allegory of the Cave)

After watching the video and taking notes (both as a whole and individually) try to think about what you wish you could tell the adults about a teenager. I think at one point or another, we talked about how sometimes there's a misconception about how teenagers act, and sometimes you all wish that people understand you better.

Here's the original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RWOpQXTltA&list=PL9tBVbKFwvt9WEiRNibBikmpdT34ntw1Y

Please format your Google Docs as follows:

12 pt font size
single spaced
Times New Roman or Arial font
Please make sure to put your name and period in the upper right corner.
Title your paper "Allegory of a Teenager" make sure the title is bolded.

You will write two paragraphs that will explain your allegory of a teenager. Something that you feel people misunderstand about teenagers and something you wish would clear up the misunderstanding they have about teenagers.

Paragraph One -- Write a paragraph about the misconception or misunderstanding that adults have about teenagers. Make sure to explain the misconception or misunderstanding in a way that would help describe it.

Paragraph Two -- Write a paragraph about what you want to clear up about the misconception or misunderstanding. Here's your chance to tell the adults what they wish they knew. Try to explain why their misconception or misunderstanding is wrong.

Remember what we reflected on while watching the Allegory of the Cave. What do you really want to clear up that we adults DON'T GET!

Due: Monday, 8/24/2020 II Multiple Perspectives Practice: Covid-19 and Returning to School

Please follow the directions on the Google Doc. You'll be establishing an opinion on the two mutiple perspectives we talked about in class.

Perspective #1: Going back to school is unsafe for students and it’s safer to be at home going to school

Perspective #2: Not being back in school is hurting students, and we should be back in person

Even if you don't agree with either statement, you'll need to try and see WHY SOMEONE WOULD AGREE WITH EITHER STATEMENT and write why you feel someone would support that perspective. (Ms. M demoed this in class using the TikTok article as an example).

Then for each perspective you'll be watching two videos that support each topic. Please make sure you CITE EVIDENCE FROM THE VIDEO that help support what you said in the statement you wrote to support the perspectice (again, Ms. M demoed this in class).

Please make sure you're paying attention when Ms. Manalang explains how to work with document. If you have any additional questions, feel free to come to Office Zoom hours to day or tomorrow to work on your document

Let’s see how comfortable you are with Google Docs!

You are going to write two paragraphs about yourself. Here are the topics for your paragraphs.

I realize last semester may make this hard to write about, but feel free to do some type of reflection about last year, either related to pandemic learning experience or not.

Second Paragraph: Write a paragraph about what you're excited for this school year. What will you work on? What do you need to improve on and what will you do to improve on the previous year.

You will earn 10 points for each paragraph that is formatted and answered correctly for a total of 20 points possible for this assignment.

Due: Thursday, 8/20/2020 II Send Ms. Manalang your two FACTS you learned about the Democratic National Convention.

Please make sure you write A FACT not an opinion. An opinion might be an idea about how well a speaker did.

Example:

OPINION: Dr. Jill Biden did a great job with her speech on Tuesday.

FACT: Dr. Jill Biden spoke on Tuesday about how she met Vice President Biden and how they started their family.

See the difference? Please make sure you're just SHARING FACTS.

Due: Monday, 8/17/2020 II Multiple Perspectives Practice: TikTok Ban

Please read through the article attached and watch the current event video if you need to see it again and answer the questions on the Google Docs!

Try to explain yourself as much as possible. Maybe it's hard because you don't have a TikTok or you don't watch, but just think if Trump Banned something that you regularly use, and how would you feel about it.

Directions for the writing assignment are in the Google Docs.

Due: Thursday, 8/13/2020 II Name Tag Introduction!

If we were in class, we'd be doing this on paper and I'd pass it out so that I'd get to learn your name. Now I have to find other ways to learn your name. Please do this nametag introduction for homework so I can get to know you a little bit and you can learn some of the skills that we use for Google Slides.

Also, if you are working on your phone or tablet, please make sure you download the Google Drive, Google Slides, Google Docs and Google Classroom Applications to make doing your work a lot easier!
