Principal's Message

To the San Gabriel High School Community,

It is an honor to introduce myself as the new Principal of San Gabriel High School. I am excited to transition from my current role as the Assistant Principal of Instruction and continue to work with the Matador community in this new capacity.

When I was a young child in the Philippines, I played school with my dolls. I knew that I would be a teacher. It was only cemented by the many amazing role models I had throughout my education. This dream was made a reality at Alhambra Unified School District. I taught Biology for nine years at Alhambra High School, where I eventually assumed the roles of ASB advisor and WASC Self-Study chair. It was also a privilege to be honored as AHS’ and AUSD’s Teacher of the Year in 2013. Being a lifelong learner, I continued to expand my experience so that I can have a greater impact with both students and adults. I ventured out of the classroom in 2014 and served as the Assistant Principal of Student Support Services at San Gabriel High School for three years. This is where I deepened my understanding of the meaning of the whole student. From 2017 to 2021, I joined the Mark Keppel family as their Assistant Principal of Instruction, as I assisted with the transition to distance learning and supported the WASC visit to earn their six year accreditation. I returned to San Gabriel High School in 2022, where we restructured the bell schedule, implemented ME Time, and earned our six year WASC accreditation.

It is exciting to start this new chapter as Principal with the San Gabriel High School community. My work will model the BRAVO way and be centered around our equity principles. I will be respectful and reflective so that everyone is able to strive for their own definition of success. I will actively engage in the growth of our staff so that we can ensure that the whole student has access to our inclusive and safe learning environment. Lastly, I will take on all of the responsibilities to be an effective principal for our students, staff, families, and continue to align our progress with AUSD’s vision.

San Gabriel High School carries a special place in my heart and in my professional and personal growth. I continue to embody the tenets that I learned at Loyola Marymount University, which is to be: service rooted, people for others, reflective, and a critical thinker for the greater good. I am committed to serve the San Gabriel High School community and emulate the Matador spirit through my actions, work ethic, and pride.

Best Regards,

Ms. Jocelyn Castro
