Career Center Staff
Phuong Nguyen, ROP Counselor – Provides counsel to high school and adult students attending the Regional Occupational Program at San Gabriel High School and Mark Keppel High School. Mr. Nguyen conducts SCTIS (Student Career Technical Interest Survey) to all sophomores. He manages ROP program issues in regards to student (adults & minors) class conflicts, eligibility, and assists with recruitment and student registration. He handles ROP Student Ambassador training for nominated and recruited students as well as county nominations for Outstanding Student in the Los Angeles County ROP awards. In addition, he is on hand to provide assistance to ROP teachers with accessibility to resources.
Lee Tang, ROP/Career Education Technician – Register, program, recruit and schedule students (adults and minors) into ROP classes as approved by the ROP counselor and appropriate school and district staff. She helps in the recruitment and registration of students by preparing flyers and posters and arranging to have them posted on campus. Her responsibilities include aiding teachers with their attendance records, making copies of materials needed for their classes, reporting back to the office manager any problems with the equipment or supplies in the classroom, as well as any problems the teachers are having in class to the Instructional Specialist or our Coordinator Brad Walsh. Monitor accuracy of LACOROP attendance reports, assist ROP counselors and other ROP Technicians in maintenance of total hours for students in each program and refer problems to ROP counselors. She also will produce Certificates of Achievements for students recommended by their teachers. Vanessa Topete, Career Education Technician – Works with the students coming to the Career Center seeking information and assistance regarding scholarship and college applications. She arranges college and career presentations, provides student notification and reminders for student attendees to such presentations. Vanessa acts as the host to our different presenters ensuring that they have the resources necessary to complete their presentation. She conducts orientations of the Career Center for Pathway classes and assists teachers with their classes in utilizing the Choices program. Martha Wu, Sr. Clerk Typist/Office Manager – She (1) issues the various Work Permits, helps register students into corresponding CVE classes, (2) handles various duties and/or paperwork related to Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program offered to our students which includes following students that have exited the program and may have gone on to secondary education as well as maintaining a relationship with the students who are currently on the program, (3) maintains the Career Center calendar, (4) works with the ROP teachers in processing their orders for equipment and supplies for their classes including inventorying incoming equipment, instructional materials and supplies, and disburses them to the appropriate ROP teachers. She also tracks each teacher’s expenditures. She also arranges for maintenance on our office equipment and orders supplies for the Career Center. She also works with the college representatives and military personnel who come to see our students. Priscilla Boyle, Instructional Specialist – She manages the ROP teachers in day-to day problems which may arise in regards to facilities, equipment and protocol. She acts as a liaison between ROP teachers and the administration. She handles the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program for SGHS, AHS, and MKHS and oversees the Career Center in general. |
